Medical tuition RBWM

Advice and contacts to give to parents about medical tuition

If a child or young person is unable to attend mainstream school for mental health reasons, medical tuition (1:1 tuition at home or outside of mainstream school) may be available if they have a letter of diagnosis from a practitioner, such as a psychiatrist.

RBWM

This page of the AfC website provides information and advice about applying for medical leave through RISE.

The Link

The link offers provision for both primary and a secondary, which is underpinned by a therapeutic approach:  a therapist is attached to each provision.

Secondary provision is for medically vulnerable students whose needs may prevent them from accessing learning.  Usually those struggling with their mental health such as high anxieties, including self-harming and suicidal actions or ideations.  Many of our students have undiagnosed needs or, increasingly are on the Autism spectrum.

Primary is aimed at ages 4-11 who struggle to engage in mainstream due to challenging behaviours, which may place them at risk of or actual permanent exclusion.

They are based on the site of Manor Green School, which is the maintained special needs school in RBWM.  They are under their governance and share all their facilities but are funded independently.  They do not have a separate DfE number and students who attend The Link are enrolled either with their mainstream school or with the local authority PRU, depending on their arrangements.

A student does not require an EHCP to attend The Link, but evidence of medical need is generally required to assure funding from the local authority for the placement.

A pdf produced by the Link can be found below for secondary and for primary and contact and website details are listed below.
